About Yakopi 
Yakopi is working together with the local community at Belawan Sicawang to regenerate the northwestern mangrove forests of the estuary.
This is a rich forest of twisting tidal rivers, full of wading birds, forest animals, and amphibians. Planting and nursery work is advancing with support of a handful of expert foresters and a large contingent of local women's groups.

Why it matters locally
YAKOPI is working together with the local community at Belawan Sicanang to regenerate the northwestern mangrove forests of the estuary. This is a rich forest area with twisting tidal rivers, numerous wading birds, forest animals, and amphibians.
While diverse with plant life, mangroves are at the heart of this forest, performing critical functions to keep the forest alive. Sadly, rampant deforestation has put this area under threat from frequent flooding due to stormwater, coastal erosion, and loss of habitat for numerous non-human animal and plant life.
This mangrove deforestation has also led to loss of ecosystem resources that support livelihoods, secure nutritious food supply, and secure freshwater supply (by preventing saltwater intrusion) for members of the local community.

Our methodology is backed by strong science. We use proven algorithms for carbon calculations, and track impact where possible with remote sensing and machine learning.
With our science partners,Global Mangrove Trust and Kumi Analytics, we’re working at the cutting edge of how to measure carbon absorption from space, driving change to make sustainability finance accessible to the humblest communities.
Every few months, a quantified verification report of the impact will be made publicly accessible, making all impact claims evidence-based and scientifically valid.
Financial Transparency
We use a mobile app – Planter – to confirm delivery of all funds to the field. We’ll soon be writing these deliveries a public blockchain as well, to allow auditors to track donation flows from anywhere on Earth. Next, we are building tools for project leaders to speak back straight to the community about developments on the ground. These peer-to-peer links open the black box of how sponsorship dollars translate to impact in the real world!
